Pedro Arrupe

The Pedro Arrupe Center for families and minors is a reality planned and structured for the various needs of families and minors at-risk. The house has been in operation since 2001 in a former hotel for railway workers given to Centro Astalli by the State Railway Service. It was specifically founded to offer assistance to mothers and fathers with children fleeing from war and persecution who had arrived in Italy to request asylum.

Today the Center comprises many realities: apart from the community for refugee families, that can be defined as the original nucleus of the center, there are the Casa di Marco, a foster home (casa famiglia) for minors ages 0 to ten; the Center Aver Drom for unaccompanied minors between ages 15 and 18; and the Casa di Maria Teresa for single mothers with children in at-risk situations.

The Center uses a new and original model of reception, with attention that aims at taking care of families, respecting the rights of children, and supporting parenthood. In this model, reciprocal support and an exchange of experiences are the distinctive characteristics that accompany each of the residents to a new autonomy.
